I remember playing with Matryoshka dolls aka nesting dolls as a kid. It was so exciting opening up each layer and finding dolls in decreasing sizes one inside another. The first Matryoshka was created in 1890, but has been recreated by many artists as a form of art and expression. In 2008, 31 designers designed Matryoshka’s to celebrate Russian Vogue’s 10th anniversary (http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2008/11/11/russian-vogue-turns-10/gallery/1). Matryoshka signifies a happy mother of a large family who is healthy and well fed. She symbolizes fertility and motherhood. Russians feel a cultural connection with these dolls. My mother in law (who is Russian) has a collection of these dolls and was thrilled when I told her about the theme for Olivia’s party.
I got inspired to make this party for Olivia, when I found Matryoshka cupcake holders at Marshals. I just couldn’t resist! All the deserts are Russian themed. They include; Pavlova, Russian tea cakes, Meringues, mini White Russian Strawberry cake, Matryoshka sugar cookies and Russian Chocolate cupcakes.
CHANEL, YVES ST LAURENT, JUDITH LIEBER, CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA ALL CRAZY FOR MATRYOSHKA!!!
